The difference between polyester film and polypropylene film capacitors

Polyester film capacitors are also called CL capacitors, and polypropylene film capacitors are also called CBB capacitors. The two types are well distinguished from each other. Generally, polyester film capacitors start with CL, while polypropylene film capacitors start with CBB. Both have self-healing and non-inductive properties.

The main differences between the two are as follows:

1. Under high frequency conditions, the stability of CBB capacitors is higher than that of CL capacitors.

2. Under the same temperature change conditions, the range of CBB capacitor capacity variation with temperature is smaller than that of CL capacitors.

3. The loss of CBB capacitor is smaller than that of CL capacitor. Under the condition of frequency of 1kHz, the loss tangent value of CBB capacitor loss angle tanδ is generally less than 0.001, while the tanδ of CL capacitor is less than 0.01.

4. The insulation performance of CBB capacitors and CL capacitors is particularly good, which is better than other capacitors, while the insulation performance of CBB capacitors is better than that of CL capacitors. For example, when the capacity is less than 0.33uF, the insulation resistance of CBB capacitors is greater than 25000MΩ, while CL capacitors have better insulation performance than CL capacitors. The capacitance is greater than 7500 MΩ.

5. Compared with CBB capacitors, the only advantage of CL capacitors is that they are small in size. Under the same voltage and capacity, CL capacitors can be made smaller than CBB capacitors, which is still very useful for some customers who have limited installation space. of.

Because the performance of CBB capacitors is better, but the price is more expensive, there are many CL capacitors in the market that pretend to be CBB capacitors. It is difficult to find the difference by visual inspection. The following two methods are recommended for your reference:

1. Measure the loss value, if it is less than 0.001, it is a CBB capacitor, otherwise it is a CL capacitor.

2. Use a palm-type digital capacitance meter and a hair dryer to test. First, put the capacitor on the capacitance meter to measure the cold state

capacitance value, then use a hair dryer to heat the capacitor, and then measure the capacitance value. If the capacitance value changes too much, it is CL capacitor, otherwise it is CBB capacitor.
