PET Film is a high-quality and durable film made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate) material that is commonly used for packaging and labeling. This product is ideal for use in a variety of applications, including printing, lamination, and window film. PET Film has excellent optical clarity and high tensile strength, making it highly resistant to tearing and puncturing. It is also chemically inert, non-toxic, and heat-resistant, making it safe and easy to use in a variety of settings.
A PET is a polyester or polyethene terephthalate. This is a thermoplastic which is made up of dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and ethylene glycol.
PET Film is crystal clear and offers high performance if you compare it with other polymer firms. It has greater tensile strength, low moisture absorption, strong dimensional stability and maintains its physical properties when tested under a wide range of extreme temperatures.
PET Film has good resistance to UV, optical clarity, good gas barrier, excellent electrical properties and high gloss. This type of film is best suited for printing and laminations. They tend to have a high melting point so it's most suited for materials that require high temperatures for sterilisation.
PET film is likely the better choice for food and beverage packaging, with HDPE film being the better option for heavier-duty packaging and shipping needs.
High-density polyethylene, also known as HDPE, is another common packaging solution used in the food and beverage industry among other industries. Like PET, it's lightweight and impact resistant but there are a few key differences between the two.
Opacity: Perhaps the biggest difference between HDPE and PET is that PET is typically clear/transparent, while HDPE is translucent. You can see inside the packaging close-up, but at a further distance, the packaging looks opaque.
Temperature: Both HDPE and PET are heat resistant, but HDPE has a higher melting point (160°F). HDPE also can resist cold better, up to -50°F, compared to PET which can handle temps to -40°F.
Flexibility: PET film is strong yet retains its flexibility. HDPE film is on the other end of the spectrum. It's strong yet extremely rigid and difficult to crack.

What Is the Difference Between Pet Film and Pvc Film?
Polymers are macromolecules which contain a large number of repeating units (called monomers). PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate and is thermoplastic polymer resin. PVC refers to polyvinyl chloride and is a rigid plastic.
PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate in which monomeric units are ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. These monomers undergo condensation polymerization to obtain polyethylene terephthalate (polyester). This polymerization reaction is illustrated in the following diagram:
PET film is a thermoplastic polymer which can be moulded into different shapes and then cool to increase resistance. PET can withstand UV rays and have more durability. That's why it is used for thermoformed packaging for instance packaging of food.
On the other hand, PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride in which the monomeric unit is vinyl chloride. These monomers undergo additional polymerization to obtain polyvinyl chloride. This polymerization reaction is illustrated in the following diagram:
PVC film is rigid plastic and can withstand high temperature and have some durability. Hence it is used in making drainage pipes, cable wire insulation, medical devices and footwear.
It is worth mentioning that PET is much stronger and has more durability in comparison to PVC.
The Uses of Pet Film

PET film is used in our modern world frequently and in many diverse applications. PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film – Or polyester film – Is a thermoplastic polymer that is utilised for antimicrobial & insulation films, surface protection, hard-coats films & protective films, labelling & label face-stocks, packaging & printable films, security/tamper evident films and photovoltaic back-sheets.
Combined with their processing tolerance and mechanical properties make them the perfect substrate choice for processing (i.e. metallizing, vacuum coating, laminating, etc.).
Typically either bubble extruded or biaxially oriented, PET film is a thermoplastic polymer that is in many ways not only comparable but superior to varying other thermoplastic polymers with regards to dielectric constant, insulation breakdown & melting points.
PET film also has a high tear strength & tensile strength which is one of the main factors for usage as outlined above.
What Is the Melting Point of PET Film?

How Is PET Film Made?
PET film is generally made of polyester or polyethylene terephthalate (pet). PET is in many products and is the same polymer that you find in the manufacturing of water bottles.
There are a number of different PET films from a variety of manufacturers to choose from. A typical architectural grade PET film is made of multiple thin layers of PET. Some layers are clear while others are dyed or have pigments added to darken or colorize the film. In addition to these layers, another layer is added with metal or ceramic coatings to reflect or absorb energy. Finally, a clear hard coat is added to the film to provide durability and protection against scratching.
PET film is typically installed on the interior side of glass, but some films can be applied on the exterior side under special circumstances.
PET Film Production Process
The general process is as follows: PET resin drying → Extrusion casting → Longitudinal stretching of thick sheets → Transverse stretching → Winding → Slitting and packaging → Deep processing.
Drying of PET resin
PET resin contains polar groups in the molecule. so it is highly hygroscopic. its saturated moisture content is 0.8%. The presence of moisture makes PET extremely prone to oxidative degradation during processing. Affect product quality.
Therefore, the water content must be controlled below 0.005% before processing. This requires sufficient drying of PET.
There are two general drying methods, namely vacuum drum drying and airflow drying.
The former drying method is better. Because PET is not in contact with oxygen during vacuum drying. It is conducive to controlling the high-temperature thermal oxygen aging of PET and improving product quality.
PET melt-extruded cast sheet
After melt-extruded and plasticized the dried PET resin, and then mixed by coarse and fine filters and static mixer,It is transported to the machine head by the metering pump. Then cooled by the quenching roller Into thick slices for use.
Extrusion of biaxially stretched
PET thick film Biaxial (direction) stretching is to stretch the film or sheet extruded from the extruder at a certain temperature. In the longitudinal and transverse directions to make the molecular chain.
The crystal face to be determined is oriented, and then heat-setting treatment is carried out in the case of stretching.
The biaxially stretched film, due to the orientation of the molecular segments, improves the crystallinity.
So it can significantly increase the tensile strength, tensile elastic modulus, impact strength, tear strength, improve cold resistance, transparency, airtightness, Electrical insulation, and gloss.
Most of the flat film adopts the plane-type successive biaxial stretching process.
Is PET Film Conductive?
PET films can be used in a number of different applications due to their high optical transmission and conductivity. They can be used in liquid crystal devices to provide a transparent, conductive layer that accepts the applied voltage used to realign the liquid crystal cells.
The sheets are also commonly used as components for touchscreens, position sensors, electroluminescent lamps, and electrophoretic displays, as well as in electromagnetic shielding applications.
Is PET film 100% Recyclable?
PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film is a type of clear, durable and versatile plastic. In fact, it is the most recyclable and recycled plastic in the United States. That's why America's beverage companies use it to make our beverage bottles, which are carefully designed to be 100% recyclable.
Recycled PET (rPET) film is a highly sought after material. Using rPET rather than new plastic reduces environmental impact - When used to make new bottles, total energy consumption is reduced by 79% and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are limited by 67%. It can be used to make new bottles as well as many other products — Winter jackets, rugs, playground equipment, dog beds and more.
How to Identify the Quality of Your PET Film?

Tip2. Printing Accuracy
Address issues like holes in printed films, especially under black colors. Selecting a high-quality DTF film can mitigate such problems and enhance the precision of your prints.
Tip3. Ink-loading capacity
Some customers may meet the problem that the red color becomes pink after white printing, or sometimes you can see the ink bleeding during printing, both the mixed ink and bleed ink can be attributed to the poor ink-loading capacity of the film.
Tip 4. Powder shaking effect
Opt for a PET film with an effective anti-static coating to prevent white powder edges, ensuring a clean and clear final film transfer.
Tip 5. Release effect
Explore different release ways, including hot peel, cold peel, and warm peel films available in the market. The different coating can make the release effect different, but generally it is a waxed coating.
Tip 6. Water fastness
Customers value durability, especially when it comes to washing fastness. Ensure that your PET film meets high standards, with a rating of 3.5~4 Level for superior water fastness.
